Although home ownership, is often, considered, a key component, of the so – called, American Dream, each individual, must consider, seriously, why he would want to own a home, and whether it would be, in his personal best – interest! Owing a home, of one’s OWN, is often, the most wonderful experience, yet if it is done, with a thorough personal consideration and evaluation, and thus, done wisely, can become unsatisfying, and excessively stressful, etc. With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly review, consider, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means, why it matters, and how to proceed forward, wisely, and in your personal, best interest.
1. Options; owning (versus leasing); opportunities: There are many options, when one looks at, and considers, buying a house. What are your present needs, and foreseeable, future ones? Among these, are the size, shape, style, design, price, affordability, etc, and, prioritizing your personal needs, and requirements, rather than emotional considerations! Are you the type of person, who should be owning, rather than leasing, and/ or renting? How might you consider, and determine, your best opportunities, rather than, merely, doing what temporarily, might make you believe, it pleases you? Have you ever wondered, why so many potential home buyers, are influenced by staging, etc, rather than seeing the big picture, and envisioning, one’s personal needs, and the house’s true potential, as well as positives, and flaws?
2. Where; what; why: How will you decide, where you want to live? What about a specific location attracts you? How much consideration, will you place on items, such as schools, transportation, houses of worship, safety, etc? Why do you see yourself living in a particular town, neighborhood, and specific house? Will you be happy about your ultimate decision?
3. Needs; nuances; neighborhood; nearby: Before you begin your search, take the time, to focus on what you want, need, and can afford, and whether ownership, in general, and a particular house, in a specific price range, is what’s best for your situation! Seriously consider, and evaluate, various nuances, to ensure you maximize your potential, to proceed wisely! What are you looking for in the neighborhood, you will reside? Are you seeking, an urban or rural setting, or something, in – between? Evaluate what is nearby, including whatever is most important, to you, such as schools, stores, entertainment, houses of worship, convenience to transportation, safety, etc.
Are you ready to OWN, a house, of your own? Will you commit to the necessary discipline, to proceed, wisely?
